Destin is a city located in Okaloosa County,
Florida. As of the 2000 census, the city had a
total population of 11,119.
Destin is known as the "World's Luckiest Fishing Village", the largest and most elaborately equipped fishing fleet in the State of Florida docks at the Destin Harbor. In addition to fishing, recreational opportunities include golf, tennis and watersports, including diving and snorkeling. The 100 Fathom curve draws closer to Destin than any other spot in Florida providing the speediest deep-water access on the Gulf.

area of 21.2 km² (8.2 mi²). 19.5 km² (7.5 mi²)
of it is land and 1.7 km² (0.6 mi²) of it is water. The
total area is 7.95% water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there are 11,119 people, 4,877 households,
and 3,135 families residing in the city. The population density
is 570.1/km² (1,477.1/mi²). There are 10,599 housing units
at an average density of 543.5/km² (1,408.0/mi²). The
racial makeup of the city is 96.21% White, 0.37% African American,
0.40% Native American, 1.03% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 0.37%
from other races, and 1.54% from two or more races. 2.66% of the
population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 4,877 households out of which 24.8% have children under
the age of 18 living with them, 53.0% are married couples living
together, 8.0% have a female householder with no husband present,
and 35.7% are non-families. 27.4% of all households are made up
of individuals and 8.5% have someone living alone who is 65 years
of age or older. The average household size is 2.26 and the average
family size is 2.72.
In the city the population is spread out with 19.4% under the age
of 18, 5.6% from 18 to 24, 29.8% from 25 to 44, 28.2% from 45 to
64, and 17.0% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is
42 years. For every 100 females there are 101.8 males. For every
100 females age 18 and over, there are 100.4 males.

median income for a family is $60,498. Males have a median income
