When hiring a caterer for your wedding or party, there are a few
things you should know in order to make an informed decision.
First, caterers can not only provide you and your guests with
a beautiful display of delicious delectables, but some are also
full-service event planners.
They will go to the extent of finding the perfect party spot for
you and by doing so, be able to determine exactly what special
needs you will have. The costs of catering services will, of course,
vary in accordance to the amount of time and materials needed
to give your event a distinct and distinguished appearance.
Having a good idea of your budget is crucial
when picking a caterer. Also, keep in mind what your guests may
be expecting and what kind of image you will be portraying. After
doing this, you are ready to begin deciding where to spend more
money and where to trim the fat.
Ask the caterer to see his or her portfolio.
Be sure to check references and always get a letter or contract.
Come to an agreement on all fees, gratuities, sufficient insurance,
extra charges, payment schedules, and cancellation policy. A standard
is 50 percent as a down payment, with the balance due at a later,
specific date.
Finally, make sure your caterer is professional
in appearance, attitude and in preparation of the final product,
your food. Communicating with him or her on a mutual respect basis
will help in providing your guests with a comfortable, exciting
atmosphere!
'Ask your caterer to make you a tray of
'leftovers' from your reception. You won't find time to eat until
it's over!'
